Hughesd is the personal webspace of Dave Hughes, a nondescript, average bloke living and working in Derbyshire, England.
The concept is to create a community site where anyone can contribute. I've used the same software as a certain free encyclopedia site due to its ease of use and popularity - this means that more people will know how to contribute if they want to.
I also wanted to provide a method for amalgamating the different types of content I have on the site. Currently there are about seven different technologies involved, including Nukedit, PHPBB and so on. By using one platform and migrating the other content across I can streamline the site and make it easier to maintain.
The main drive is for information. People can post Anything here. Anything. I'm not bothered. I once maintained that I liked my site to be clean and family friendly. Now I don't care anymore. Post what you like, but within certain decency guidelines (see Appropriate Content). You're the one who'll get in trouble over it, not me... All content will remain YOUR property, but by posting it here you'll be telling me that it's OK for me to use it.
Remember - there are no rules (well, apart from the Appropriate Content rules and they're only there to make sure the site doesn't get banned or something). No guidelines, no risk of being censored, nothing. :-)
After that comment you might ask me what I'm going to do with stuff that gets posted. The answer is: Probably nothing. If cool stuff gets posted and I notice it (or you let me know you've posted it) then I'll enjoy it and publicise it on the main page, but that's about it. Now and again I might see something that I really like, then I'll maybe use it for something, but I'll make certain to credit the contributor for it. Just make sure that you sign your work (using the four tilde signature thingy) and put it in an appropriate category (just make a new one if the existing ones are no good.
Who knows, if this site gets popular enough then I might appoint content moderators to make sure that stuff is categorised properly. That's way off in the future (and possibly just my fantasy). That's about it for the About page. Be sure to check out the Appropriate Content page before you post, and if there's a need for a FAQ then either let me know or make it yourself! That's the beauty of it all!!
